CANADA—BRITISH COLUMBIA PARTNERSHIP CREATES JOBS, STIMULATES ECONOMY IN TRI-CITIES
TRI-CITIES – Motorists in the Tri-Cities will benefit from federal and provincial infrastructure funding to resurface portions of the Mary Hill Bypass, announced today by MP James Moore, Port Moody-Coquitlam MLA Iain Black and Coquitlam-Burke Mountain MLA Doug Horne. This project is just one example of both governments’ commitment to stimulate the British Columbia economy.
“It is great that we are able to work with the provincial government to keep our communities’ roadways and bridges maintained,” said MP Moore. “The goal of Canada’s Economic Action Plan is to continue to build a strong economy for the future.”
“We have to make certain this transportation corridor is able to accommodate the growing amount of traffic that the region is experiencing,” says Black. “This improvement project will also serve to create employment in our region, which is always a good thing.”
“We have so many who rely on this stretch of road as they travel throughout the Lower Mainland,” says Horne. “Our city is fortunate to have this network of roads nearby and we are ensuring that they are maintained to the highest standards.”
The Governments of Canada and British Columbia will each invest up to $832,500 in the project. The resurfacing will begin this May and will extend the longevity of the roadway.
This project is one of 15 across the province that will break ground thanks to close to $35.4 million in joint federal and provincial funding. The Governments of Canada and British Columbia have taken steps to get shovels in the ground and to flow money faster for targeted infrastructure projects starting in the 2010 construction season.
